Why Healthy Fats are Phat

why healthy fats are phatI can't think of a nutrient that's been more misunderstood over the years than fat. Growing up in the 90s, I was convinced that it was bad for your heart and that fat would, indeed, make you fat. My house was stocked with low-fat, so-called "health foods" like skim milk and egg whites that never left me feeling satiated and always caused me to return to the fridge not long after for a snack. When the fat is removed, so is the flavor. To make it more palatable, sugar is usually added in its place. When I started to really pay attention to labels, I was shocked at how much sugar was in these low-fat foods I was consuming. It turns out that fat is not the enemy, and there's now plenty of science to back it up. My diet now consists of a lot of fat and not a lot of carbs, and I feel great. I have tons of energy and don't feel the endless hunger that I used to experience when I was afraid of the "f" word. Here are some of the other benefits you can experience when you ditch the refined carbs and sugar that almost always accompany low-fat or fat-free foods, and experience the amazing benefits of healthy fats:

Strong Immune System

Saturated fats like butter and coconut oil contain anti-microbial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal fatty acids.

Easier Fat Loss

By increasing your fat intake and lowering carbs, you allow your body to burn fat and use it for energy, rather than store it

Skin & Eye Health

Dry skin and eyes is often caused by a deficiency in fatty acids.

Stronger Bones

Fats are involved in calcium metabolism and bone building.

Reduced Inflammation

Anti-inflammatory omega-3s can help dull pain and have even been shown to improve underlying issues.

Enjoy!
